It is the default storage engine from&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/mariadb.com\/kb\/en\/what-is-mariadb-102\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MariaDB 10.2<\/a>. For earlier releases, XtraDB was a performance enhanced fork of InnoDB and is usually preferred.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mariadb.com\/kb\/en\/xtradb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">XtraDB<\/a>&nbsp;is the best choice in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/mariadb.com\/kb\/en\/what-is-mariadb-101\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MariaDB 10.1<\/a>&nbsp;and earlier in the majority of cases. MyISAM is MySQL&#8217;s oldest storage engine. There is usually little reason to use it except for legacy purposes. We also suggest looking at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/mariadb.com\/kb\/en\/galera\/\">Galera<\/a>, a synchronous multi-master cluster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mariadb.com\/kb\/en\/spider\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Spider<\/a>&nbsp;uses partitioning to provide data sharding through multiple servers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mariadb.com\/kb\/en\/columnstore\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ColumnStore<\/a>&nbsp;utilizes a massively parallel distributed data architecture and is designed for big data scaling to process petabytes of data.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/mariadb.com\/kb\/en\/merge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MERGE<\/a>&nbsp;storage engine is a collection of identical&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/mariadb.com\/kb\/en\/myisam\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MyISAM<\/a>&nbsp;tables that can be used as one. &#8220;Identical&#8221; means that all tables have identical column and index information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mariadb.com\/kb\/en\/tokudb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TokuDB<\/a>&nbsp;is a transactional storage engine which is optimized for workloads that do not fit in memory, and provides a good compression ratio.
