To use XtraDB in these versions, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/mariadb.com\/kb\/en\/xtradbinnodb-server-system-variables\/#ignore_builtin_innodb\">ignore_builtin_innodb<\/a>&nbsp;system variable needs to be set, and the&nbsp;ha_xtradb&nbsp;plugin needs to be loaded with the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/mariadb.com\/kb\/en\/mysqld-options\/#-plugin-load\">plugin_load<\/a>&nbsp;option. Both can be set in a server&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/mariadb.com\/kb\/en\/configuring-mariadb-with-option-files\/#option-groups\">option group<\/a>&nbsp;in an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/mariadb.com\/kb\/en\/configuring-mariadb-with-option-files\/\">option file<\/a>&nbsp;prior to starting up the server. In particular, it is designed to scale better on many cores, to use memory more efficiently, and to be more convenient and useful. The new features are especially designed to alleviate some of InnoDB&#8217;s limitations.
